Pakistan Railways

It started in 1855, during the British Raj when several railway firms began constructing local train routes in several Sindh and Punjab provinces. Therefore, it may be argued that the nation's rail system began as a patchwork of local rail lines, built and run by small-scale, privately owned railroad enterprises of the period.

However, the North-Western State Railway's network continued to grow throughout Sindh and Punjab up until 1947, the year of independence. Nearly 8,122 kilometers (5,047 miles) of the North-Western State Railway's rail lines fell into Pakistani jurisdiction after the country gained its independence. In the beginning, Pakistan's railway network relied solely on narrow-gauge rails. Throughout Pakistan's history of railroads, there have been a few occasions when narrow-gauge railroad lines have been converted to broad-gauge ones.

The Pakistan Railways and the Chinese business have currently agreed on a contract of $140 million (about PKR 31 billion). According to that agreement, the Chinese corporation will give Pakistan 230 cutting-edge passenger coaches.46 coaches will be purchased as completely built units (CBUs), and they are scheduled to arrive in Pakistan from China in December 2022. The Pakistan Railways would produce the remaining items locally with the assistance of its engineers and technical employees under the supervision of specialists from the Chinese enterprise.
